20 Bars and Restaurants to Try in 2020 (part 1)

Can you believe that the 2010’s are ending!?! So much has happened in the past decade, and Tampa has changed drastically! There are so many new bars and restaurants that have popped up in the last 10 years, that if you had been living under a rock for the past decade you wouldn’t even recognize the city! Now that we’re heading into 2020, we aren’t worried about new jobs, going to the gym, or being more organized. We’re making resolutions easy this year. By the end of 2020 make sure you’ve checked out these 20 awesome bars and restaurants in the Tampa area!


1. District Tavern

District Tavern really takes bar food to another level. You might stumble into this unsuspecting bar, and just order your usual beer or cocktail, but you might never think to try their food. Well, that would be the biggest mistake of all time. We’re not exaggerating. Make sure you stop by and try some of their amazing food, and grab one of their unique and delicious cocktails too! Also, keep an eye on their calendar, because they are always hosting amazing events like the upcoming New Years Eve Roaring 20’s Party!

2. Ulele

If you’re a Tampa foodie, of course you know about Ulele. Maybe you’re not a foodie though. Maybe you’re a thrifty college student or somebody who prefers sports bars! If you’ve never been to Ulele for whatever reason, this is the year to check it out. Ulele is a perfect place for a date or a nice brunch, and it really captures a “Taste of Tampa”. Make sure to stop by and try out some delicious food and locally brewed beers and spirits.

3. Thee Tree House

It’s the place with that cute little Instagram swing! Well aside from having one of the best photo ops in Tampa, Thee Tree House has plenty of other unique and cool things going on inside. It’s a perfect place to bring a group of friends to hang out and enjoy some food and drinks. Plus make sure to try out one of their CBD infused drinks if you’re feeling adventurous! We haven’t tried one yet, so let us know what you think about them!

4. Yeoman’s Cask and Lion

If you’ve never been to Yeoman’s before, then allow us to introduce you to one of your new favorite places. This is the new “ole reliable” bar. The atmosphere is always fun, and it’s a perfect place to go and watch a Lightning game. The food is delicious and their fish and chips are going to wow you every time. This is another spot that’s perfect to bring your family to, your friends, or even your children if you’re out with them. Check it out next time your downtown… and maybe the time after that, and the time after that too!

5. The Patio

We’ve mentioned The Patio previously on the blog, but we’re adding it to the list because 2020 wouldn’t be complete without it! This is another place that will become an instant classic if you’re the type who likes to go out and watch football or hockey games. With some of the best drink specials in Tampa, you might not want to leave after the game is over! Grab your friends and get to The Patio for an awesome atmosphere and fun night.

6. Park and Rec Tampa

You’ve probably been to the one in St. Pete, but just like with everything else, the Tampa version is WAY better! (Just kidding we love you St. Pete) The newly opened Park and Rec in Tampa is insane. They’ve got 3 bars, tons of video games, and huge bar games. This place will really make you feel like a kid again, no matter how old you are. Check out some of their fun drink creations, and play some life sized beer pong!

7. Zydeco Brew Werks

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about Ybor City! There’s lots to see and do in Ybor, and we even talked about some of the best bars in a previous article. Zydeco is popping up on the blog once again though, and with good reason: This place is awesome! Make sure to check it out if you’re a fan of local beers and delicious Cajun style food. Like we said in our last blog, if there’s one thing you do in the entire next decade, try their bread pudding.

8. The Edison Food and Drink Lab

It’s been on your to-do list for over a year now, and you still haven’t been! Yes we’re talking about the Edison Food and Drink Lab. The restaurant prides itself on its formula, “product+technique+creativity”. The results are new interpretations of everyday food, expertly engineered into modern cuisine. This is another spot that is a sure fire hit for a date night. Don’t let another year go by without checking it out!

9. Bamboozle Cafe

You might think you know the best Vietnamese restaurant in town, but unless you’re thinking Bamboozle then you’re probably wrong. This quiet little cafe is easy on the wallet, a perfect place to study or work, and they have some of the best pho in Tampa. Pro tip: if you’ve had a few too many drinks at District Tavern or Park and Rec, stumble on into Bamboozle and try some of their delicious pho or smoothies for an insanely good hangover cure.

Of course they’re on this list! Did you think for a second that they wouldn’t be? It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve been in the past decade, it’s still on the to-do list for 2020. They do everything well; food, drinks, desserts, memes. So do yourself a favor if you haven’t been in a while, make sure to go back and give them some love, and as always try their signature Cheesy Todd. Then maybe head to Dough and pick up some desserts for later!
